Brighton & Hove Albion defender Zoe Morse has announced her retirement from playing professional football at the age of 25.

The Sussex club confirmed the player’s news via a post on their official club website this evening.

Morse has been playing senior football for the last three years. She spent two-and-a-half years with the Chicago Red Stars before joining Brighton & Hove Albion in January. Morse has made 17 appearances for the Sussex club in all competitions.

Ahead of the new season, Morse has determined that the time is right to move away from professional football to focus on an alternative career. The player hangs up her boots having played in the top leagues in America and England. She has also represented the United States at various youth levels.

After Morse’s retirement was announced, Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Melissa Phillips said “Zoe has decided to return to the States and move her career in another direction away from football and we fully respect her decision.

“Zoe was only here for a relatively short time but she always gave absolutely everything in an Albion shirt and it was a pleasure to work with her. I’m sure whatever she does in the future she will be a success.”

Brighton & Hove Albion have said their farewells to both Morse and Park Ye-eun on Transfer Deadline Day.
