After four weeks off, Women’s Super League action returns this weekend and it was a wet and windy night in Liverpool.

Despite Everton holding majority possession in the first half, Brighton had the better opportunities to open the scoring.

Aileen Whelan’s header hit off the bar and two free-kick attempts fell short. Toni Duggan had the best chances for the hosts down at the other end.

But despite a few sparks, nothing could find the back of the net leaving things 0-0 at the break.

Coming out into the second half, Brighton continued to have a flurry of chances, and when handed another opportunity, Whelan headed home for 1-0.

Everton almost equalised immediately but Izzy Christiansen’s chance was blocked and Claire Emslie sent one over the bar.

Late in the game, Inessa Kaagman almost doubled the lead for Brighton but it went wasted.

Eventually, the clock wore out and Brighton did enough to hold on for the win. They sit third in the table while Everton are eighth.
