Recent reports in the Swedish media have indicated that Kullberg and Zigiotti Olme will join Brighton & Hove Albion on free transfers in January with the pair having recently left former club BK Häcken at the end of their contracts.
When speaking in a Brighton & Hove Albion press conference, Powell did not refer to Kullberg and Zigiotti Olme directly, however, she seemed very confident about January transfer window business, commenting that ‘a couple of players’ will definitely be arriving at the Sussex club.
“The truth of the matter is that we are always looking to improve (the squad),” Powell said. “We are having regular recruitment meetings to see where we perhaps need to strengthen.
“In this window, we will definitely have a couple of players coming in.”
Kullberg is a defensive player who has been capped by Sweden on nine occasions while forward Zigiotti Olme has 17 senior international caps to her name. Both players were Swedish Damallsvenskan title winners with Göteborg FC prior to their transformation under the BK Häcken club name.
Brighton & Hove Albion are likely to end the calendar year in the top half of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table and they have a solid base to build upon in 2022. Manager Powell has a record of making subtle changes to her squad in transfer windows rather than making a wave of new additions and risking disrupting the natural growth of her side.
