Although Ajax announced back in January that rising star Brian Brobbey would leave the club when his contract expires this summer, the player has revealed that he changed his mind in February.

Following his match-winning goal against Lille in the first leg of their Europa League round-of-32 tie, Brobbey agreed to sign a new deal but hinted that something went wrong that caused the agreement to fall apart.

“Then I said yes, I’ll stay, I’ll sign. But after that, I think something didn’t go well in the negotiations.”

Brobbey, who is managed by super-agent Mino Raiola, has since signed a four-year deal with RB Leipzig.

The 19-year-old has featured 13 times with the Ajax first-team, scoring five goals and dishing out a pair of assists.
