Schalke Sporting Director Peter Knäbel has today confirmed that the Bundesliga club have reached a verbal agreement with both Jere Uronen and his club Brest, to sign the Finland international.

“We have a verbal agreement with the player and his club. We just need to complete the medical and some paperwork. The goal is for Jere to join us in Belek tomorrow,” said Knäbel.

According to Kicker, Uronen will join on an initial six-month loan and Schalke will then have an option to sign the left-back on a permanent basis. A potential relegation doesn’t have an effect on the clause.

Uronen (28) has a contract with Brest until 2024 but has played just 298 minutes across six Ligue 1 games for Breton club this season. The Finnish defender will likely go straight into Thomas Reis’ team at left-back with Tobias Mohr, a winger by trade, currently occupying that position.

Schalke are currently bottom of the Bundesliga with just two wins in 15 games. With nine points, the Royal Blues are already five points behind Stuttgart, who occupy the relegation playoff. S04 resume their season against Eintracht Frankfurt on January 21.
