Eric Roy's side clinched a 15th league win of the season against FC Metz (4-3) at Stade Francis Le Blé on Sunday afternoon. Understandably, Brest fans were getting excited during the post-match scenes, singing "Brest, European Cup" whilst applauding their team's victory.
They have every reason to do so, as Les Pirates edge closer to a historic qualification for European football by maintaining their second position in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats table. The win against Metz equalled the club's best-ever tally in the 1989-90 season, but also effectively secured at least sixth position in the table by the end of the season.

Brest have 76% likelihood of qualifying directly for the Champions League
Opta's predictive tool gives Brest a 99.99% probability of finishing in the top six this season, just behind Paris Saint-Germain (100%) and AS Monaco (100%). What's more significant is that the predictor even sees SB29 going straight into the Champions League without a play-off 76% with their most likely finishing spot being second-place in Ligue 1 (which is currently at a 41.5% probability).
Eric Roy's men are about to break the club's points record, with only two points required to beat their finish in 1986-1987 (54 pts after 38 matches). They also boast a win rate of 54%, a significant improvement from their previous best of 39% in the 1989/90 season.
Whilst Eric Roy urges that nothing is yet won, the numbers indicate that Brest are on the verge of creating history by qualifying for European football for the first-ever time.
