Loaned out to Stade Brestois last season, Jordan Amavi (30) is set to return to the Brittany side on a permanent deal after having been frozen out by Olympique de Marseille’s new manager, Roberto de Zerbi, reveals La Provence.

Brest’s transfer window is finally getting started. After a slow start due to a restricted budget despite an historic qualification for the UEFA Champions League, Les Ty-Zefs have strengthened all the areas of their squad in a space of a week with the arrivals of Troyes centre-back Abdoulaye Ndiaye (22), Mainz’s striker Ludovic Ajorque (30) and the return of Lens’ Julien Le Cardinal, already loaned out last season and whose buy option has been lifted. The 26-year-old defender may not be the only familiar face to return to Brest, as Amavi is edging closer to bringing back his experience to Eric Roy’s squad.

Arriving on loan from Marseille last summer, Amavi had a tough season, taking part in only two games with Brest due to a calf injury that kept him away from the pitch almost the whole season. However, the former France international seems to have impressed in the short time he was fit to play, scoring one goal and convincing the Brittany side to make efforts to retain him after his loan expires. With only one year remaining in his current deal, Amavi has been set as a surplus to requirements at Marseille and is looking for a new challenge. According to La Provence, the left-back is set to return to the Brittany side on a permanent transfer.
