Stade Brestois 29 0-0 Stade Rennais FC
THE MATCH
Rennes were looking to get back to winning ways after draws with RC Lens and Le Havre AC in their last two outings, but Bruno Genesio’s side were desperately disappointing in the late summer sunshine at the Stade Francis-Le Blé. Rennes returned home after registering 0.27 expected goals, their lowest such figure since Genesio became coach of the club in March 2021.
Luckily for them Brest were not much better, even if they enjoyed almost all the chances that there were in a derby lacking in excitement. Jérémy Le Douaron really should have done better than put the ball over at the back post after Mahdi Camara’s low cross in the 16th minute, and that was about that.
With seven points from four games, however, Brest are enjoying a fine start to this season following their strong end to the last campaign under Éric Roy. Rennes are just a point behind them and remain unbeaten, but more is expected from an expensively assembled squad who have a European campaign to look forward to after the international break as well.
THE PLAYER: Jérémy Le Douaron
The Brittany native was the most lively attacking player on display but was unable to get his first goal of this season.
THE STAT: 13
Rennes are unbeaten in 13 games against Brest in Ligue 1, equalling their longest unbeaten run against one team in the top flight set against Metz.
