Marco Brescianini has admitted that AC Milan played a key role in his development and praised one coach in particular after he was called up to the Italian national team.

Brescianini joined Milan’s youth academy and progressed up to being the captain of the Primavera but he never fully made the jump to the first team, getting just one appearance off the bench in August 2020.

After a series of loan spells he was sold to Frosinone last year, and after one season he made the switch to Atalanta, for whom he scored twice on his debut to earn the attention of Luciano Spalletti.

Funnily enough Brescianini was not heavily capped at youth level, playing just once for the U21s, but now he could make his senior debut for his country in the next few days.

He was part of a press conference in Coverciano on Tuesday and he expressed his gratitude to Milan and Italy legend Gattuso, with his comments relayed by Football Italia.

“Coach Gattuso was fundamental, like other coaches I’ve had. He was the first coach who believed in me and helped me understand what playing at a senior level meant,” he said.

“He promoted me and other young players to the Milan first team, and I learned the attitude needed to go forward in this work.”
