The contest started evenly as both sides eased back into match speed. Brentford’s defence was strong and organised, ensuring the score remained 0-0 late into the first half.
Holly Hawkes had two chances to put the home side ahead from wide crosses, however her headers missed the target.
The stranglehold was broken in added time of the first half as Hammersmith found the back of the net from a corner.
Coming out of the break it was the visitors who struck first, doubling their lead to put Brentford on the back foot.
The Bees were not deterred, however, as Abigail Claringbold fired a shot from the penalty area. Hammersmith's keeper made a strong save to keep the score 2-0.
Khantharat’s group continued to attack as the second half progressed, eyeing an opening goal to build the pressure on Hammersmith late in the half.
Orla McComb came close to finding Brentford’s opener as she met a corner at the front post. The ball seemed to cross the line before it was cleared away by the Hammersmith keeper, however it was ruled a non-goal by the referee.
Despite finishing with a wave of momentum, the Bees fell to a 2-0 loss to start the new year.
Brentford now turn their attention to the JGMT Cup, travelling to the Griffin Sports Ground on 26 January to face Kenningwell United.
