Neil MacFarlane's side ended their first season back in the PDL joint-top of the league alongside Bournemouth with goal difference favouring the Cherries.
Ethan Brierley whipped a great delivery into the box for Morgan but the striker's shot was saved well by Josh Shattle in the Barnsley net.
Brentford opened the scoring soon after that chance as Donovan was in the right place at the right time to place home from a Riley Owen cross into the box.
It was complete domination from the home side as further chances for Donovan and Morgan came which drew good saves from the Barnsley goalkeeper.
On 44 minutes the lead was doubled and deservedly so, after Barnsley were camped in their half for most of the first period. A fantastic long ball from Hickey found Maghoma who lobbed the keeper without hesitation as the ball hit the back of the net.
Donovan grabbed his second of the game with a great run which ended in an emphatic finish as he blazed into the top corner.
He had two quick opportunities to get his hat-trick, the first was saved well by Shattle and the second was blocked on the line by Ziggy Kozluck.
Maghoma had a chance to get his second but the midfielder could not connect with the ball after his mazy run and attempted strike.

Brentford end the league season joint-top of the table with Bournemouth, finishing with 21 wins, four draws and six losses after 31 games played.
Despite this being their last currently scheduled game of the season, there are still a number of games to complete for MacFarlane's side.
The final of the Premier League Cup against QPR, which has been confirmed will take place at Loftus Road is still yet to be given a date.
The Bees will also play in a London Senior Cup final against Hanwell Town, whilst the win today guarantees at least one more game in the PDL for the west Londoners as they look to finish an already strong season in style with silverware at stake.
