Brentford made the worst possible start to the game, finding themselves a goal down inside the opening five minutes.
Wimbledon forward Kai Mckenzie played through Ed Leach who did well to hold off Remy Bennison before tucking his shot home.
The home side were close to finding an instant reply when Kerron Samuels got on the end of a corner kick but his volley went wide.
The Bees found themselves two goals down on the 15-minute mark, this time it was Mckenzie who found the back of the net with a close range finish.
Brentford struggled to create in the final third despite enjoying some good spells of possession in the opening half.
The Wombles went into the break with a three-goal lead with Ollie Downs finding the bottom corner from distance on 36 minutes, ending what was a disappointing opening half for the Bees.
Brentford flew out of the traps in the second half, scoring two goals in two minutes putting the hosts right back into the game.
The first goal came on 49 minutes when Halil picked up the ball from 25 yards and struck his shot hard and low into the bottom left corner.
The Bees were then awarded a free-kick on the edge of the Wimbledon area which Bennison smashed into the wall before a Brentford trialist tucked home the rebound.
The home side had all the momentum as they pushed forwards in numbers in attempts of finding a leveller.
Freddie Taylor came inches away for Brentford on 66 minutes when his attempted cross from the right flank nearly lobbed the Wimbledon keeper but instead the ball went just over.
Wimbledon found their way back into the second and punished Brentford for allowing them to do so with Junior Nkeng extending the visitors' lead on 80 minutes.
