Brentford striker Ivan Toney is set to be named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the first time, according to David Ornstein.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed a blistering start to the season, recording five goals and two assists in six games for the Bees.
His contributions have been pivotal to Brentford’s impressive start to the season.
Thomas Frank’s side currently sits in 8th place on the Premier League table after recording two wins, three draws, and one loss so far this season.
England boss Southgate has been impressed with Toney’s performances and is set to reward him with his first-ever call-up to the National team setup.
The Northampton-born centre-forward has never played for England at any age group before.
He was tipped to make the England squad last season after an impressive campaign where he contributed 12 goals and five assists in 33 league games in Brentford’s first season in the Premier League.
However, Southgate opted to call AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham instead to back up to team captain Harry Kane.
The former Newcastle United striker will now get his chance to represent his country in the upcoming international games.
He is expected to be named by Southgate when the England manager announces his squad for the upcoming Nations League matches.
West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi are believed to have retained their spots in the squad, having both been picked last time out.
England will travel to Italy for their first Nations League game on September 23rd before hosting Germany three days later.
This will be Southgate’s last squad selection before he picks his squad for the World Cup in Qatar, where England have been drawn alongside the United States, Iran, and Wales in group B.
