Standard Sport understands reports that Besiktas have reached an agreement to sign Thiago are wide of the mark, with the Brazilian settled in West London.
The Bees have already lost manager Thomas Frank to Tottenham this summer and are aware of strong interest from Premier League rivals in forwards Yoane Wissa and, particularly, Bryan Mbeumo. Both players could leave, potentially limiting Brentford’s forward options, but they had no intention to sell Thiago anyway.
Thiago, who turns 24 next week, has endured an injury-hit first year with the Bees, joining the club last summer but not making his debut until November due to a meniscus injury.
After just four appearances, he suffered a joint infection in his knee which kept him out until the final four games of the campaign due to setbacks with his recovery.
Thiago has therefore made just eight appearances for the Bees in all competitions so far and is still awaiting his first goal. He is expected to feature more regularly for the club next season.
Brentford agreed to sign Thiago from Belgian side Club Brugge for a club-record fee of £30million in February 2024. He finished the 2023/24 season with Brugge before joining the Bees last July.
Thiago joined Brugge in 2023 having scored prolifically in Bulgaria with Ludogorets Razgrad.
