According to a report by Foot Mercato, Olympique de Marseille are prioritising a move for Neal Maupay (28) with discussions reportedly ongoing with Everton FC as they look for common ground ahead of the final day of the transfer window on the 30th of August.

Marseille are in need of a backup striker after Faris Moumbagna (24) suffered a serious injury. The understudy to Elye Wahi (21) ruptured his ACL minutes into his substitute appearance during Les Phocéens opening game of the season against Stade Brestois.

Marseille’s initial bid was rejected by Everton who would be keen on selling the striker before the end of the window as he has entered into the final year of his contract. However, it’s thought that Marseille are only able to offer a loan deal with an option to buy.

A reunion for Neal Maupay?

The French club are likely aware that they have not much time to delay. Foot Mercato reports that Brentford FC, where Maupay was on loan last season, are keen to make a deal and the striker is a fan favourite in West London. While it was earlier reported that Maupay would be interested in returning to another former team in OGC Nice.
