Brentford were rarely short of attacking talent during their most recent spell in the Championship with the likes of Ivan Toney, Neal Maupay, Said Benrahma, Andre Gray, and Ollie Watkins all plying their trade in west London during that period.

One player whose contributions certainly should not be overlooked, however, is Lasse Vib, who has swapped football for financial advisory over the past 12 months or so.

The one-time Denmark international was signed by the Bees for a seven-figure fee in 2015 and would go on to score 37 goals in 97 appearances for the club.

No Brentford player bettered his single-season tally during his two full campaigns in the Championship while he’d made a strong start to the season, bagging seven goals in 19 games, before his exit in February 2018.

A move to the Chinese Super League beckoned for Vibe and he signed for Changchun Yatai in a £2 million deal – though his spell at the club would be short.

By April 2019 he was back at Swedish side IFK Göteborg, the club that Brentford signed him from, and after one season in the Allsvenskan returned to his homeland Norway to join top tier side FC Midtjylland.

The striker, in the twilight of his career, would only play a bit-part role for the Superligaen outfit – scoring four goals in 26 appearances – and hung up his boots last summer.

Quiz: Can you name which club Brentford signed these 28 midfielders from?

But Vibe had been preparing for his retirement for much of his career. The Dane earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees by studying part-time across a 10-year section of his career and quickly stepped into a role with financial advisors Imperium Family Office after calling time on his playing days.

Bringing his unique insight and contacts within the game to the table, the 35-year-old has helped Imperium Family Office grow into a company that serve as financial advisors for athletes and their families.

In a recent interview with FIFPRO, Vibe encouraged all footballers to explore opportunities alongside their playing careers and look to the future.

He said: “There are so many more opportunities for education and development available to you today: take them. Discover other passions, meet people with different life perspectives and get ready to embrace life outside of football – it could be a wonderful next step, as long as you’re ready to take it!”
