Brentford fans comments on Newcastle United after outclassed by Eddie Howe’s side – Intriguing

Brentford fans quickly saw the writing on the wall at St James’ Park.

Just as well so few of them had made the journey north, with just over 700 Brentford fans inside St James’ Park, as almost 500 tickets left unsold from the 1,200 tickets the Bees took for this cup quarter-final.

Brentford fans fortunate that the losing margin wasn’t greater for their team.

Brentford fans reacting following defeat to Newcastle United, comments via their Griffin Park Grapevine forum:

‘As soon as the team was announced it was obvious we were not going to win. I’ve had several beers and probably saying things I’ll regret tomorrow, but right now I feel I wasted my time and money coming up here to watch us try and get to a cup semi-final.’

‘Couldn’t agree more. As soon as I saw the line up I felt for you guys who had travelled. Not exactly the B team granted, but that was a BIG game and a hell of a journey. It deserved full strength and full commitment. Eddie Howe agrees with me. Anyone saying Forest is a bigger game is talking b…ocks in my opinion. We could be one game from a major Wembley final if we’d given it respect. It’s why cup competitions probably need to go.’

‘Exactly how I feel waking up in the Premier Inn in Newcastle this morning. Spent a small fortune and two days holiday time to get here and we go and pick a team like that. More fool me.’

‘BFC sold us….cowards.’

‘Like so many I travelled more in hope than expectation. And was done when some of our so called fans booed Mads when he came on. Good job he can’t hear us up in the Gods.

Midfield needed to do more with a back 5 and let’s be honest, a full strength Newcastle side is pretty good.

Carvalho is a work in progress, liked Yarmoliuk for his endeavour and Schade worked his socks off but that’s it for me.

Hopefully a decent night’s sleep in the Premier Inn away from my missus’s snoring and a good journey back to Southampton in the morning!’

‘As soon as I saw the line up I felt for you guys who had travelled. Not exactly the B team granted, but that was a BIG game and a hell of a journey. It deserved full strength and full commitment. Eddie Howe agrees with me.’

‘Am I missing something, TF didn’t exactly pick the kids. The over reaction by some on here is ridiculous.

TF has to manage minutes in the legs so soon after a game on Sunday night.’

‘Some of the comments on here are ludicrous. We played a squad full of first team players. We have 3 games in a week FFS.

Yes, we clearly make a decision to prioritise the league, which is not a problem for me.’

‘We could have put out whatever team we like tonight and we aren’t winning this cup, the big guns just put out their strongest team in the semi or the final and the refs will not tolerate us winning.

Save the players for the big games.’

‘The problem was very much to do with the output which was absolutely shocking from the players.’

‘All in all, he rested Mbeumo, Damsgaard and Collins. Agreed he could have started those. He decided not to with 3 games in a week in mind. I’ve also read that Damsgaard needs careful management too.

Some of comments on Frank are very very harsh.’

‘I said to my brother pre match that we’d be up for it, but I was wrong. The assistant commentator didn’t help, driving me upstairs to bed early at 3-0 down, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that we weren’t completely blitzed when I saw the final score.’

‘It was obvious rotation would happen. It didn’t help when we were two centre backs down after 15 minutes but if we’re honest, even our strongest team against a full strength Newcastle away would be tough in any circumstances. Perhaps Thomas was banking on a few changes on their part which didn’t happen.

The players that came in are all worthy first team players but as the match panned out, it became apparent that we didn’t have the quality in midfield to match them which is where the game was lost. Guimares, Tonali and Joelinton in good form is as good a midfield in the Premier League imo.

I think the criticism of Thomas is very harsh.’

‘Look. No one in their right mind expected us to go to SJP and get anything let alone go any further in the next round if we got there. But shows how far we have come as a club that we are in these situations in the first place.’

‘We deservedly beat them in the league a few days ago and are a match for anyone on our day. We gave up before we crossed the white line.’

‘If we had been able to field the team that beat them in the league- which I thought we would- I am certain we would have won this game.’

‘Walk in the park for Newcastle since 2-0.’

‘We made Jacob Murphy look like Pele, really poor.’

‘Tonali committed enough fouls to be sent off twice.’

‘Feel sorry for all the fans that made the journey tonight a week before Christmas. We picked a side that didn’t really have a chance and come away with more injuries.’

‘A very poor performance. One that’s tough to accept with travel distance, money spent and being a QF.’

‘Feel for everyone who has travelled,I have turned it off.’

‘Fair scoreline and we never looked like scoring all night.’

‘Wow, we really do look like plucky Cup minnows having their dreams dashed at a big club.’

At least we will take this defeat with dignity and self reverence. The geordies will be celebrating in the pubs and clubs like its a lottery win.’

‘I never understood going up to St James’s and going in half hearted.’

‘I think that sums the ref up tonight, Meghoma fully pushes Trippier, both arms extended, proper shove and he waves play on.’

‘Thank god that’s over.’

‘Shame to say i bailed out and saw the goal in a bar in newgate to avoid the crush. Not angry just disappointed.

Imho That was a really good chance for a trophy and we didn’t prioritise it. I understand the reasons but it doesn’t help the emotions.’

‘Well done all who travelled.

You deserved so much better.

I just ambled into my kitchen to watch it and I feel annoyed, so god knows how you all feel.

Hope the journey home is ok and/or you have a great night out in Newcastle.’

‘Gutted for those who travelled and had very little to cheer about! Hope a night out in Newcastle can make up for it!’

‘In TF I trust..but I spent a lot of time and money getting to Newcastle to watch the second string. We are never going to win the league, we’re clear of the relegation fight, but one day we might just make a cup final. So why not go for it tonight?’

‘Thomas Frank sold his soul tonight…love from Newcastle’

‘I ‘m in the hotel bar now and am ok hun. Just reading the gpg. I guess my frustration comes down to the fact I’ve been a bees supporter a long time and we’ve never actually won anything of note.’

‘Had we put our first team out tonight and played brilliantly we would have lost 1.0 to a Gordon dive. We know it, TF knows it.’

‘Technically and tactically second best to a strong Newcastle squad with home advantage. They passed the ball better, looked sharper in the final third & deserved the result.

The goals conceded were disappointing as TF stressed post- match. No problem with the team selected but we had to be 100% to stand a chance against the Toon and simply we weren’t at that level throughout.’
