The 2024-25 season is getting worse and worse for the FC Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen. After playing a few minutes in the opening game of the season against Valencia, the Dane has been unable to play a single minute because of his tendinopathy.
He returned to availability on 17th January but was yet to make his return to the pitch when he suffered another unfortunate injury, that will keep him out of action for the next three weeks as well.
With this injury, the chances of him leaving Barcelona in this winter transfer market could have deteriorated. However, this is not proving to be the case as SPORT reports that the Premier League side Brentford are doing their best to sign the Dane, either on loan or with a full transfer.
This Brentford side is being coached by Christensen’s compatriot, Thomas Frank, and there are several other Danes playing in the Brentford team, including Norgaard, Jensen, and Damsgaard, who are all friends of the Blaugrana defender.
The English side also believes they can get the former Chelsea center-back back to his best level by providing him with an ecosystem that is tailored for him.
Thomas Frank himself has a very good relationship with Danish players, including Christensen, and he can convince the Barcelona defender to join his side and is even willing to take a risk with him even though he is injured at the moment.
One alluring option that Brentford can put forward is that of a loan for the next six months, while keeping the option to buy him at the end of this loan. This can provide Christensen with an ideal scenario to recover after his injury-ravaged last few months.
The English side also has enough economic muscle and is safely entrenched in the middle of the Premier League table, not currently threatened with relegation.
Thus, with Ronald Araujo’s renewal and Flick’s trust in Eric Garcia, Christensen will now have to make a decision about this operation, with other clubs like Juventus also interested in him.
