Brennan Johnson is crystal clear on his targets stepping into a new season.
The forward carved his name in Spurs folklore by scoring the winner in the UEFA Europa League Final against United in Bilbao in May.
Six weeks later, he was back at Hotspur Way ready to prepare for a new season. Six weeks further on, he opened his account for 2025/26 with a beautifully taken goal to complete a 3-0 win against Burnley on Saturday, our Premier League opener, Thomas Frank’s first Premier League game in charge.
Top scorer with 18 in all competitions last term, Brennan knows he will be remembered forever in N17 for that winner in Bilbao.
So, what was his mindset coming back to work?
Speaking on our Review Show on Saturday, he told us: “For me personally, it’s just wanting to replicate it, wanting to do it again. It felt good, obviously, it was 17 years (wait for a trophy) for the club. There was kind of a feeling of relief around the place and obviously a lot of joy but for me, as a player, it made me look at it differently.
“I want to be like the players who are serial winners, winning so many competitions, because I'm sure the feeling doesn't get any worse. I think it gets better every time, so, yes, I want to replicate it. I want to come back, work hard, and I want to do it again with Spurs.
“That's the biggest thing. Obviously, it was such a long time, and I think the squad last season put themselves into the history books, obviously winning the European trophy. I think we all want to do it again. We've come into a new season now, the manager’s made it clear that there's a few competitions this season that we want to go far in... and why not?”
