Brendan Rodgers provides Harry Kewell update as Yokohama F Marinos move nears

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on the status of first team coach Harry Kewell, who has been linked with a return to management. The Australian has been linked with the Yokohama F Marinos vacancy, which Kevin Muscat vacated a few weeks ago.

Speaking at the media conference, Rodgers said that the situation with Kewell will be clarified in the coming days as it is expected that the former Leeds and Liverpool midfielder will move on.

“Yeah, we will probably know more in the next few days but he has been in talks about going to Japan and it is something that will probably be clarified in the coming days.”

Kewell missed the game against Dundee on Boxing Day after Rodgers gave his coach the opportunity to spend some time with family and speak with the J-League outfit.

The Australian joined Celtic under Ange Postecoglou last season as a first team coach and was retained by Brendan Rodgers when he returned in the summer. It was a little surprising that Ange didn’t take his compatriot with him to Spurs; however, it was Celtic’s gain as the former winger is well thought of within the club. Now, he looks to be set for a return to management.

Kewell is best known for his spells at Leeds United and Liverpool. During his time at Elland Road, Kewell made 236 appearances scoring 61 goals and assisting on 27 occasions; whilst with Liverpool, he scored 16 and assisted 16 in 139 games. In his time with Liverpool, he won the European Cup and FA Cup.
