Brendan Rodgers has paid tribute to Falkirk manager John McGylnn after the Scottish Champions were drawn against the Championship side for the next round of the League Cup. After beating Hibs 3-1 at Celtic Park on Sunday, Rodgers was enthused with the draw that puts the Irishman against a former member of his back room staff.

As reported by Mail Online, Rodgers reacted to the draw and admitted he was looking forward to seeing the Falkirk boss, who he was full of praise for.

“I feel great in a couple of ways. One, we’re at home. I think all you ever want is a home draw.

“And two, I’m looking forward to seeing a great man in John McGlynn. He’s a special guy, one of the nicest guys I’ve met in my life.

“When I was here the first time, he was a very loyal, supportive member of my staff.

“I’m really, really looking forward to coming up against one of his teams. I’m glad we’re at home and I’m really looking forward to seeing him.”

McGlynn became a scout for Celtic in 2015 when Ronny Deila was in charge before being retained by Rodgers when he assumed the role in May 2016. McGlynn was involved behind the scenes as Celtic won the Double Treble before moving to Kirkcaldy and a second spell as Raith Rovers manager in September 2018.

In a Celtic TV documentary about the Double Treble, McGlynn can be seen leading a tactical briefing to the manager and the rest of the first team staff.
