Brendan Rodgers cannot believe Leicester City right-back Ricardo Pereira keeps getting snubbed for the Portugal side after a number of fantastic displays this season.
Ricardo made Portugal’s World Cup squad and went the full 90 minutes in their round-of-16 defeat against Uruguay.
However, the soon-to-be 26-year-old hasn’t earned a call-up since. When Rodgers was asked where Ricardo ranks amongst the Premier League’s right-backs, he believes he belongs up near the top.
“He’s certainly up there,” Rodgers said. “Portugal must have top-level right-backs if he’s not even in the squad. It’s absolutely incredible.
“You see his level. You see his dribbling ability, and what’s he’s got better in is his defending. He’s really aggressive getting up to people.”
Manchester City’s João Cancelo, Barcelona’s Ruben Semedo, and Southampton’s Cedric Soares have all been selected for the right-back role over Ricardo in the last year.
