Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers called out Papa Gueye’s poor challenge that forced Reo Hatate from the field. In the closing stages of the game, the Senegalese forward, who had already been booked, let his frustration show as the game entered its final stages and recklessly went into a challenge that left Hatate on the turf.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the Irishman was delighted with his side’s performance as they romped to a 5-1 win at Pittodrie but expressed his disappointment in the challenge on Hatate.
“It was a poor challenge from the guy, he’d obviously lost his head a wee bit at the end. Reo has left his leg there with the ball and the guy’s come right through him. We’ll have to see how he is. But it was a disappointing challenge.”
As Hatate received treatment, Rodgers looked less than impressed as he remonstrated with the Fourth Official and Steven McLean.
Celtic will assess Hatate in the coming days but the fact that he had ice on his knee at the side of the pitch was not a good sign. The Japanese midfielder has been an integral part of the success this season and would be a big miss on Cup Final day, even if Paulo Bernardo and Luke McCowan can step into his role.
