Brendan Rodgers is a natural when facing the media and nine times out of ten he has an answer for their often ridiculous questions. Today was no exception.
When asked about Phillipe Clements claim that Celtic are financially out of his side’s league, Brendan pulled no punches as he gave the hacks the answer they all know, but didn’t want to hear.
Brendan replied: “I’m only interested in Celtic really. Where Celtic has come over a number of years, this is a club that has been organically grown. We haven’t been handed money. This is something that’s been grown. The leadership from the very top to the bottom is why we’ve had the success we’ve had.”
Brendan is absolutely spot on. We might have plenty of riches in the bank, but we’ve earned that through our own success, sound management in the boardroom and throughout the staff at the club and never forgetting the unbelievable backing from the Celtic support. That’s why we are very much self sufficient, successful and have always paid our bills.
We don’t need money from some Middle Eastern sugar daddy, or in Clement’s own club’s case interest free loans from wealthy supporters while pretending they are still the same club but never mentioning the £80m in debt that the previous club left unpaid. We are run correctly and efficiently and successfully. That’s why our history as a football club is UNBROKEN.
Brendan also ruffled a few feathers by stating that he doesn’t care about the so called trophy count resting on the outcome of the game. “Not really” he quipped when asked about seizing the chance to go one trophy ahead of both Ibrox club’s combined.

He continued: “Not for me. For me it’s about the game. It’s about winning the trophy. We want to win as many trophies as we can. We don’t have to necessarily tell everyone. But we just want to win, and win well, and then hopefully get into our next game and look to the next trophy.”
Brendan as always hitting the target with a few home truths. Let’s hope the players are as sharp on Sunday. The support certainly will, there are no fears about that.
