Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Celtic have offered Greg Taylor a contract extension as the Scotland Internationalist enters his final year. The 26-year-old has been a key figure in the title successes over the last three campaigns but his deal expires in 2025.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s game against Chelsea, Rodgers said that he had held conversations with the player’s representatives while stressing the importance of the player to the squad. “I think there was communication maybe towards the end of last season.

“I also met with Greg’s agent to talk through the importance of where I see it but also to be honest and open where everything is at.

“It’s clear we want to keep him. I’m hopeful that we can get a deal done because he’s a very important player for us.”

Celtic have been linked with a move for Wolves defender Hugo Bueno on a season-long loan deal; however, Rodgers wants the pair to battle for the starting role at the club as the team look to compete on all fronts.

Despite struggling to be first pick in his first two seasons, Taylor has developed into a valuable first team player under both Ange Postecoglou and Brendan.

Taylor has made 173 appearances for Celtic since arriving from Killie in 2019. In that time, the Greenock-born defender has scored eight goals and assisted twenty five times. Celtic’s No.3 has won eight trophies in that time and will be hoping to continue collecting silverware during this forthcoming season.
