Breaking down the September 2025 schedule for Gotham FC

Article image:Breaking down the September 2025 schedule for Gotham FC

NJ/NY Gotham FC will be happy that August is finally over. It was a disappointing month where the Bats had a four-game winless streak and struggled to score goals. At the very least, they ended the winless streak with a great win against the Orlando Pride. Additionally, they won their first CONCACAF W Champions Cup match of the new campaign.

Hopefully, the Orlando match will spark better days for the New Jersey team. In September, they will have six games between the NWSL and Champions Cup. In addition, four will be on the road and two will be at home.

Gotham FC knows this month will be critical if they want to climb the table in the NWSL. So, here is a look at the schedule for September.

Gotham FC's September 2025 schedule

Tuesday, September 2: Gotham FC at Alianza Women FC

The first game of September will be a Champions Cup away match at Alianza Women FC. This will be the first meeting between the two teams, so anything can happen. While considered the best team in El Salvador, Gotham FC should beat Alianza. Anything less will not be seen as a good result. More importantly, if the Bats continue to struggle in the NWSL, then success in the Champions Cup group round will ease that pain.

Sunday, September 2: Gotham FC vs Angel City FC

The NJ/NY team will try to get the second NWSL win in a row when they welcome Angel City FC to Sports Illustrated Stadium. Earlier in the season, Gotham FC had a convincing 4-0 road win against the California team. Whether they can do the same again is to be determined, especially since the team has struggled more at home. But a locked-down defense and at least a couple of goals should get the job done against Angel City.

Friday, September 12: Gotham FC at San Diego Wave FC

The most difficult game for Gotham will be against San Diego Wave FC. The other California side is not just in third place; San Diego has been a difficult location for them to be successful. Plus, the Wave is third in goals with 28 and fourth in goals allowed with 19. The Bats sit in ninth with 22 and third with 16, respectively. A major difference between the sides is that San Diego's goals are more spread out compared to the majority of the visiting side's goals being scored by Esther González. If the Spaniard is shut down, then it is highly likely the Bats will leave empty-handed.

Tuesday, September 16: Gotham FC at Vancouver Rise FC Academy

In the Champions Cup, Gotham FC will also face Vancouver Rise FC Academy. The semiprofessional team is in the tournament for the second time and finished in fourth place in their group during the 2024-25 campaign. Since the team is not fully professional, it is easy to assume that this will be the least difficult game, on paper, for the NJ/NY side. Do not be surprised to see the majority of the starters rested for this fixture.

Sunday, September 21: Gotham FC at Bay FC

When Gotham last faced Bay FC, Geyse led the ladies to a 2-1 win right before the NWSL summer break. Since that match, the third California side of September has not won and sits in 12th place. This would be a perfect road game to secure all three points and provide the Bats a boost for the last fixture of the month.

Friday, September 26: Gotham FC vs Portland Thorns FC

The final game will be at home against a talented Portland Thorns FC team. Gotham FC suffered one of the worst losses of the season in their last meeting, falling 4-1 in Portland. This time, they will try to reverse the misfortunes by picking up a win at home. It will not be easy, though. At this time, Portland has two more points than the Bats, and things can look very different by the time this match occurs. No matter the result, the Thorns have proven to be a difficult opponent over the last few seasons. Unless things change dramatically for Gotham, the game could go in any direction.
