Breaking down the August 2025 schedule for NYCFC

Article image:Breaking down the August 2025 schedule for NYCFC

July was a roller coaster for New York City FC. In Major League Soccer, the team won two road games while going 3-1-1, including a shocking win against Orlando City SC. They also lost their first match in the 2025 Leagues Cup against Club Puebla.

Now, NYCFC will have another busy month as the team begins their August fixtures. The Pigeons will play their remaining Leagues Cups games, for it is highly unlikely the Boys in Blue will move into the knockout round after losing the first game of Phase One. They will also resume MLS play after that first round. As such, the team will play six matches again.

There is a high probability that this will also be a roller coaster month. Therefore, let's take a look at NYCFC's schedule for August.

NYCFC's August 2025 schedule

Friday, August 1: NYCFC vs Club León

NYCFC will continue Phase One of the Leagues Cup with a match against Club León. As the first round progresses, the games will get more challenging. As such, this will be a more difficult game compared to Club Puebla, yet the Pigeons still lost. Still, Club León had mixed results last season, finishing in 11th place in the Apertura and sixth in the Clausura. But the Boys in Blue will have to deal with Colombian star James Rodríguez. So, unless Pascal Jansen puts out a strong Starting XI, the team could lose again.

Tuesday, August 5: NYCFC at Deportivo Toluca Fútbol Club

The final match of Phase One of the Leagues Cup will take place at Yankee Stadium, but NYCFC will be considered the visitors for this fixture. The team will face Deportivo Toluca Fútbol Club, who won the Clausura and Torneo Clausura last season. The Liga MX side has been one of the top teams in Mexico for the last few years. Hence, this will be the most challenging match of the Leagues Cup, and perhaps all of August.

Saturday, August 9: NYCFC vs the Columbus Crew

The first MLS game of the month will be against the Columbus Crew. The Queens side had one of their best defensive matches in the 0-0 road draw earlier this season. That is why NYCFC has a chance to beat the Crew, especially at home. The fourth-place side has gone 2-2-1 in their last five MLS games, but if the Pigeons play similarly to how they did in Columbus defensively, then they could come away with a win and move up from eighth place.

Sunday, August 17: NYCFC vs Nashville SC

NYCFC will have two back-to-back matches against two of the top Eastern Conference teams, starting with Nashville SC. The Music City side is 14-6-5 at this time. But the two teams shared the points in the last meeting after Hannes Wolf led the Pigeons to a comeback draw. That does not give NYCFC any guarantees, though. With players like Sam Surridge, who has 18 goals in MLS, and Hany Mukhtar, Nashville will be a tough team to keep out of the goal, even at Yankee Stadium.

Saturday, August 23: NYCFC at FC Cincinnati

The last road match of the month will see NYCFC take on FC Cincinnati. The Orange and Blue sit in second place, one point behind the Philadelphia Union. While the Bronx team led the series early on, the Ohio side has gained an advantage over the visitors. Plus, playing in TQL Stadium is never an easy ride. Rather, the fans act as the 12th player, making life difficult for opposing players. This will probably be the hardest MLS game of August.

Saturday, August 30: NYCFC vs D.C. United

On paper, the home game against D.C. United is one NYCFC should win. D.C. is in 14th place and has lost their last five games in all competitions. They are also winless in their last nine. So, if the Boys in Blue do not end August with all three points, then this match will be considered a failure.
