Breaking down the April 2025 schedule for NYCFC

Article image:Breaking down the April 2025 schedule for NYCFC

The first full month has come and gone, and New York City FC is now 2-2-2 after their first six games. The Pigeons have shown some positives with their roster, which needs a few more players as soon as possible. At the same time, they suffered the worst loss in the young campaign, in which the Boys in Blue gave up a 3-1 lead and lost 4-3 to Atlanta United FC.

Games like the one in Atlanta cannot happen. NYCFC needs to do better, and the players are capable of doing so. Hopefully, the upcoming month will see fewer mistakes and more solid defensive matches like the Columbus Crew one.

It does not get easier though, for NYCFC will have two difficult home games to start the month of April. So, here is a look at the upcoming schedule.

NYCFC's April 2025 schedule

Sunday, April 6: NYCFC vs Minnesota United FC

NYCFC will start April with a difficult match against Minnesota United FC. The Loons have had a good start to their season, with a 3-1-2 record. They are in fourth place and forward Tani Oluwaseyi has been a major reason why they have had a solid start to 2025. He could possibly cause problems for the Pigeons when they play the rare Sunday afternoon fixture. However, if the home team's backline plays as they did in Columbus compared to Atlanta, then, with the support of the fans, they should secure the three points. But again, mistakes cannot happen.

Saturday, April 12: NYCFC vs Philadelphia Union

The following week, NYCFC will face the Philadelphia Union for another tough match. This will be the first game at Citi Field in 2025. The Union is in second place in the Eastern Conference and already looks to be back to the competitive side that they are used to. They missed out on the playoffs last year, but still beat the Pigeons at home in a 5-1 thrashing. The Bronx team won the opposite game in Pennsylvania, but that was the only win since NYCFC won the playoff game in 2021. The team must be at their very best to beat Philadelphia.

Saturday, April 19: NYCFC at the New England Revolution

The next two NYCFC games will be on the road, and the Pigeons will play the New England Revolution first. They already beat the Revolution in the home fixture and have had recent success against them. However, this time, New England has goals and finally a win under their belt. Ideally, this game will have the visitors maintain more possession and spend most of the time on the attack. Carles Gil is walking up though and will be more of a threat to Matt Freese and his backline.

Saturday, April 26: NYCFC at Toronto FC

Finally, the easiest match will be away to Toronto FC. Sure, anything can happen, but the game against the Reds will be one that the Pigeons should win. Toronto has struggled immensely over the last few years and missed the playoffs over the last four years. NYCFC has struggled in Toronto, but they beat them there last season. Therefore, if the Pigeons are still searching for the first road win by the time this match rolls around, then there is a high probability that three points can be earned.
