On Monday, Vitor Roque completed his loan move to Real Betis, bringing an end to a difficult eight-month ordeal at FC Barcelona.

Signed from Athletico Paranaense last year in a deal worth €30 million plus €31 million in add-ons, Roque was brought into the club in January but was unable to make the kind of impact that was expected of him.

Roque failed to earn the trust of former manager Xavi Hernandez and was unable to win over Hansi Flick in pre-season either and has thus left on loan joining Real Betis.

Roque feels mistreated

Following his loan move to Real Betis, Mundo Deportivo has come forth with an insider report shedding light on Vitor Roque’s difficult stint at Barcelona, claiming that the youngster felt mistreated at the club.

The former Athletico Paranaense youngster arrived in Barcelona last January with the hope of fulfilling his dream, but that dream has been turning, little by little, into a nightmare, to the point of needing a way out to rediscover himself as a footballer.

Tigrinho arrived at Barça after a brief period of inactivity as the Brazilian league had ended and was given a specific work plan to follow. But then, Xavi hardly counted on him, drip-feeding him minutes.

With the change of coach, the Brazilian got his hopes up again and took a month out of his holidays to start preparing thoroughly for the pre-season, with the sole objective of convincing Hansi Flick.

However, without the certainty that the club could register him, the German coach did not bet too much on Roque, and even when he gave him minutes, he put him as a winger, placing Pau Victor as a No. 9.

Roque broke down into tears

The report further adds that the pressure and discomfort that Roque was accumulating at Can Barça exploded on the last day he trained under Flick’s orders, days before his loan move to Betis was finalised.

In the middle of a training session, the striker left in tears because he was at the end of his rope. His frustration was such that, after hugging Flick and receiving the support of his teammates, he left for the locker room.

Despite the fact that his arrival was brought forward by half a year, and it was expected that these months could be positive for his adaptation, the situation has turned out to be completely different.

Vitor Roque feels mistreated by the club, where he arrived as the theoretical replacement for Robert Lewandowski. Now all he can think about is making the most of his loan spell at Betis and proving that he has a place here.
