Coming off the back of a season where he had registered 16 goals and 12 assists in all competitions for AC Milan, Kaka went on to put pen to paper for Real Madrid for a world-record €67 million fee in 2009.

However, things failed to pan out as expected, as the Brazilian midfielder’s constant injury woes meant he could not set the Santiago Bernabéu alight on a consistent basis.

Despite the all-time great’s career in the Spanish capital being rather forgettable, he reflected on a memory from his time at the club that he still holds dear to his heart.

The best memory at Real Madrid is the day I left because Florentino told me I was a great professional who had done everything possible to achieve great results at Madrid, but the injuries and the few minutes the coach gave me did not allow it”, he said, as quoted by MARCA.

The Ballon d’Or winner added, “That was a great satisfaction. This is why you will never hear me speak bad of Real Madrid or José Mourinho.”

While several footballers could be expected to be bitter after their status went from being one of the world’s best to a bit-part player, Kaka does not fit the aforementioned description.

However, being relegated as a mere squad player may have come as a shock to Kaka, who had been crowned as the best player in world football just two years before his arrival.

Ultimately, Perez, Mourinho as well as the entire footballing fraternity are well aware of the fact that had the ex-Sau Paulo youngster not been as injury prone, he would have lit up proceedings at Real Madrid.

Hearing the same from the top boss at Los Blancos may well have felt Kaka feel understood at the time.
