There is no doubt that Real Madrid is one of the biggest clubs in the world of football, and footballers from every part of the world aspire to don the white club’s jersey at some point in their careers.
However, only a very select few players are able to make it to the Real Madrid team, and even fewer are able to etch their name in the annals of the club. But those who do achieve this are known throughout the world and are usually among the best footballers to have played the beautiful game.
One such player who arrived at Real Madrid from Brazil at a very young age and went on to become a legend of the club was the defender Marcelo Vieira. The Brazilian was one of the most beloved players of his time to don the famous white shirt and is ranked fifth in the list of players who won the most titles with the Merengues.
But it was the Brazilian club Fluminense where he took his first steps as a footballer. He later rejoined his boyhood club after his legendary career at Real Madrid and after spending half a year in Greece with Olympiacos.
Marcelo remains one of the best players to have come out of Fluminense, and the Brazilian club has recognised his greatness by renaming one of their academy stadiums after him.
As MARCA has reported, Fluminense published a statement in this regard, which ran as:
“The boy who left Xerém to conquer the world and returned to conquer America with Fluminense will be honored in the place where he took his first steps in football. In a ceremony scheduled for next Thursday (09/05), the Vale das Laranjeiras Stadium will be renamed the Marcelo Vieira Stadium.”
The statement went on to share that in addition to Marcelo and his family, the ceremony for this event will also be attended by the youth teams playing in various categories and the women’s football team.
