Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto admits that he would’ve liked for his goal against Bologna in the Coppa Italia to be the winner.

The 24-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, after the disappointing 1-2 extra time loss against the Rossoblu in the round of sixteen clash.

Augusto seemed to have put Inter on course to reach the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia with his goal early on in extra time of their round of sixteen match against Bologna this evening.

The Brazilian found the back of the net with a header from a corner.

This was the first goal of a match in which Inter had failed to unlock the score despite having had the majority of possession and a number of good chances during normal time.

And Augusto’s header did look to be a big relief after all of that.

But Bologna had other plans.

The Rossoblu responded with an equalizer via the same route, from a corner. And then, Thiago Motta’s team caught Inter cold on the counter to score the winner and dump the Coppa Italia holders out of the competition.

After the match, Augusto said that “We played a great match for ninety minutes. We created a lot of opportunities that we could have taken advantage of better.”

“And then they did well with the chances that they created towards the end of the match.”

“There are matches like that,” the Brazilian lamented.

“But now we’re just putting our heads down and working.”

“It’s still a long season,” Augusto emphasized. “We still have Serie A and the Champions League.”

“Clearly I would have liked for my goal to have been the winner,” the 24-year-old said.

“But I’m still happy to have scored in front of the fans.”

“Now I have to keep working so that I can score and assist more goals, and have more moments like that here in front of the fans,” Augusto said.
