Versatile wingback Carlost Augusto feels that he’s happy to play in defense at Inter Milan if it’s what the team needs.

The Brazilian spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, after the Nerazzurri beat Lecce in Serie A yesterday evening.

This season, Augusto has proven to be a real utility man for Inter.

The 25-year-old has followed a similar path to Matteo Darmian on the right, deputizing in defense when needed.

And Augusto has not looked out of place when he’s played in the role.

The Brazilian had already shifted into the back three in a number of matches as a tactical switch by Simone Inzaghi.

And the coach used Augusto in defense as an emergency option against Napoli. He helped Inter to keep a clean sheet in that match.

Augusto once again helped Inter to avoid conceding, playing in defense from the start.

Considering that the Brazilian had won renown for his attacking output whilst at Monza, this has been an impressive development.

After yesterday’s match, Augusto admitted that “I still have a lot left to learn in the defensive phase.”

“I want to improve,” the 25-year-old continued.

“And I’m here, learning a lot.”

Of playing in the back three, Augusto noted that “I’ve already played in this role at Monza.”

“I’m happy to keep learning so that I can be useful to this team.”

“I want to thank the team and my teammates,” Augusto said.

And of the win over Lecce, the Brazilian said that “Today we gave a great show of our maturity.”

“I want to congratulate the players who came off the bench, because they did well to take advantage of their opportunities.”

“That shows the strength of the dressing room,” he added.
