Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto wasn’t pleased with his team’s wasted opportunities against Man City on Wednesday night.
The Italian champions opened their Champions League campaign with one of the most daunting tasks on paper.
Nevertheless, Simone Inzaghi’s men delivered the goods at the Etihad Stadium. They were solid at the back and could have taken the lead had they pounced on one of their several counterattacks.
In the end, they had to settle for a goalless draw.
For his part, Augusto – who started on the left for the injured Federico Dimarco – felt his team registered a good result.
However, he expressed his anger for failing to make the most out of their chances.
“These are the matches that all players want to play,” said the former Monza man in his post-match interview with Sportitalia via FcInterNews.
“We know we have a strong group. We entered the pitch focused. It was a good draw. We could have made better use of the opportunities, but it was a great match.
“We know how difficult it is to face City, but we played the ball bravely, creating opportunities. The goal didn’t come and that made us a bit angry, but it was a great match nevertheless.”
Inter still have another seven contests against seven different opponents in the Champions League group stage.
They will be aiming to finish in the Top Eight spots to book their place in the Round of 16 without having to go through the playoffs.
But for now, the Nerazzurri will shift their attention to Sunday’s major tilt against AC Milan.
