Last night’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals was, undoubtedly, one of the lowest points of Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure as Real Madrid manager.
The manager put a brave face on after the game and tried to instill belief that his team can turn things around in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu next week.
However, the defeat, coupled with last weekend’s shock loss to Valencia in La Liga, cast dark clouds over the legendary Italian tactician’s future at the club.
Indeed, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the heavy loss to Arsenal has pushed Ancelotti manager to the edge. His storied spell at the helm of Real Madrid is now in real danger, with Brazil waiting in the wings to swoop in.
Even if Los Blancos were to stage one of their trademark comebacks next Wednesday at the Bernabeu – a feat that cannot be ruled out given their history – Ancelotti’s situation at Valdebebas has become increasingly fragile.

The report highlights how the 65-year-old has had to deal with plenty of problems this season, such as the lack of balance and depth in the squad, as well as the fact that the much-vaunted ‘Fab Four’ of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham have not clicked.
The manager has not complained at any stage and tried to make the best use of the resources at his disposal, but things are not working any longer.
Even as Ancelotti will attempt to orchestrate yet another miracle, in Rio de Janeiro, plans are taking shape to bring him to Brazil, who recently sacked Dorival Junior.
Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), remains very keen on appointing him to lead the Selecao at the FIFA World Cup next year.
Ancelotti has never shown any intention of leaving Real Madrid of his own accord, but if he were to be dismissed, it would accelerate negotiations and simplify his potential move to Rio de Janeiro.
