Brazil manager Tite has explained why Fred did not feature at the World Cup.

The new Manchester United man was called up to the squad following an impressive season at Shakhtar, but didn’t play a single minute for the Seleção in Russia.

However, there was no deeper reasoning behind this, just the fact that his ankle injury didn’t recover as quickly as hoped.

“Fred had a one-stroke problem and he was unable to make a full recovery,” Tite told Brazilian outlet UOL.

“In general terms and physical, the team flew in. It was not the physical aspect that was decisive in defeat.”

Fred is expected to be available for United’s pre-season tour of the United States after receiving extended holiday.
