Bradley brace sees Charlton Athletic Women overturn Durham lead | OneFootball

Charlton Athletic battled back to win again in the Barclays Women’s Championship, Birmingham City scored four against promoted Portsmouth.

Charlton came from behind to defeat Durham with a late Katie Bradley double at The Valley, making it three wins from three games. The visitors led in the 17th minute when Lauren Briggs’ ball found Lily Crosthwaite who advanced and scored past Sophie Whitehouse. The Addicks were awarded an 82nd-minute penalty after Durham goalkeeper Tatiana Saunders brought down Jodie Hutton in the box. The spot-kick was converted Katie Bradley, who struck again three minutes later.

Birmingham City sent Portsmouth to a 4-0 defeat and sit second in the table. Tegan McGowan played the ball to Libby Smith, who turned inside the area and shot into the bottom corner. Lee Geum-min made it 2-0 after the break, heading in Lucy Quinn’s delivery, before the South Korean got her second of the game with a quarter of it left from Ivana Fuso’s set up. Louise Quinn completed the scoring in added time.

London City Lionesses beat Bristol City and stay level on points with Birmingham. Chantelle Boye Hlorkah fired the Lionesses in front from distance, Sofia Jakobsson doubled the advantage when cutting inside to find the bottom corner. Amalie Thestrup gave Bristol hope with a goal back in the second half,

Newcastle United took only five minutes of the home debut in the Championship to score against Sheffield United, Beth Lumsden with the goal. Shania Hayles, who had an assist with the opener, scored the second herself, as the hosts secured a first ever win at this level.

Blackburn got off the mark with a good 1-0 win away to Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium. Farah Crompton made the difference, with a first-half effort for Rovers.
