Bradford City goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell is closing in on a move to Rochdale, journalist Alan Nixon has reported via Patreon.

Having previously turned out for the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Walsall, Wigan, Bristol City, Rotherham and Northampton, O’Donnell joined Bradford back in the summer of 2018.

Since then, the goalkeeper has gone on to make 137 appearances in all competitions for the Bantams, who were relegated from League One during his first season at the club.

However, O’Donnell’s contract at Valley Parade is set to expire at the end of this season, and it now seems as though the 33-year-old is set for a move to pastures new.

According to this latest update, the goalkeeper is now set to join Rochdale on a two-year contract, securing his future at Spotland until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Following their relegation from League One last season, Rochdale finished this season 18th in the League Two table, five points and four places behind Bradford.

The Verdict

O’Donnell has rather dropped down the pecking at Bradford in recent years, and made just 19 league appearances for the club this season.

As a result, you do feel as though the Bantams may be able to cope with his departure, but that does not mean this will not be a good signing for Rochdale.

The 33-year-old has plenty of experience across the Football League, so he should still be a reliable presence between the posts for Robbie Stockdale’s side.

Indeed, with both Joel Coleman and Jay Lynch leaving Rochdale this summer, the club are in need of some extra goalkeeping options, so this is a good bit of business for them to do early in the window.
