Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove returned to hospital on Thursday for further exams on his heart after he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during a Serie A match against Inter earlier in the 2024-25 season.
The former Roma academy graduate collapsed on the pitch 17 minutes into the Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter on December 1, was rushed to hospital, admitted to intensive care and had a defibrillator fitted before being discharged 12 days later.
Bove is unable to play professionally in Italy while he has a defibrillator device fitted, but has previously declared his desire to return to competitive football, whether that be somewhere abroad with the device still in place, or in Italy after having the device removed.

Before that happens, Bove will need assurances that he has returned to full health and is able to cope with the physical demands of being a professional footballer.
On Friday, Fiorentina confirmed that the 22-year-old had further cardiological tests in hospital under the supervision of his consultant.

“ACF Fiorentina informs that on Thursday March 20, the footballer Edoardo Bove underwent in-depth cardiological electrophysiological tests in the Cardiology and Arrhythmology clinic of the AOUM, directed by Professor Antonio Dello Russo under the supervision of Professor Paolo Zeppilli, the player’s consultant,” a statement from Fiorentina read.
