Bournemouth have broken their transfer record to buy Brazil striker Evanilson from Porto.

With money in the bank following the recent sale of Dominic Solanke to Tottenham, the Cherries have brought the 24-year-old to the Vitality Stadium for what the PA news agency understands to be an initial 37 million euros (£31.5m), with 10m euros (£8.5m) in add-ons.

The former Fluminense player, who made his Brazil debut earlier this year and has won two caps, has signed a five-year deal with the Premier League club and will inherit Solanke’s number nine shirt.

“We are delighted to bring someone with an immense pedigree to AFC Bournemouth,” chief executive Neill Blake said on the club official website.

“Evanilson is a hugely sought-after striker and for us to bring him to the club in a record-breaking deal shows our ambition and intent.

“Having scored 25 goals last season, including goals in the Champions League, we feel that his experience and ability despite only being 24 will help us to match our ambitions moving forward.

“It’s well known that we were keen on bringing a striker to the football club and for us to complete this deal so quickly is a testament to our recruitment team.”
