Bournemouth want to hijack Leeds United’s move for Norwich City defender Max Aarons, according to The Athletic.

Leeds agreed a deal with the Canaries for the right-back worth around £12 million, but the Cherries want to scupper the move.

Daniel Farke coached Aarons at Carrow Road and knows all about him. He was about to undergo his medical before heading to Elland Road.

The England youth international is ready to move but could be climbing up into the top flight with Bournemouth.

Aarons has only one year left on his deal, and Norwich want to sell to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.

After progressing through Norwich’s youth system, Aarons impressed at senior level.

He made it into the 2018/19 Championship Team of the Season for his performances as Norwich gained promotion to the Premier League.

Aarons also picked up the 2018/19 EFL Young Player of the Season award.

The Hammersmith-born right-back was a regular for Norwich in the top flight, helping them keep five clean sheets. He won 54% of his ground duels and created seven big chances.

However, it was not enough for Norwich to stay up as they crashed back into the Championship. They immediately returned to the Premier League but were relegated again.

Aarons has made over 200 appearances for Norwich, notching six goals and 17 assists.

He could become Bournemouth’s sixth summer signing after securing deals for Hamed Traore, Milos Kerkez, Romain Faivre, Justin Kluivert and Ionut Radu.

Bournemouth have been in the market for a right-back and are bearing down on their target.

They want to sign him before their first game of the Premier League against West Ham United this weekend.
