Bournemouth and Marseille dissuaded by Rennes’ Lorenz Assignon asking price

Article image:Bournemouth and Marseille dissuaded by Rennes’ Lorenz Assignon asking price

Demoted to a role as a back-up right-back, Lorenz Assignon (23) is keen to leave Stade Rennais before the closure of the transfer window. Multiple clubs, including Olympique de Marseille and Bournemouth, have been alerted to his availability, but they are being put off by Rennes’ current asking price, according to L’Équipe.

Following the departure of club captain Hamari Traoré in the summer, Assignon was seemingly the natural successor. That is how it played out under Bruno Genesio, with the Frenchman starting regularly, however, the arrival of Julien Stéphan signalled a change. Benjamin Bourigeaud was initially preferred at right-wing-back, whilst the arrival of Alidu Seidu also poses a threat to Assignong’s place in the starting XI.

With the rise of Guéla Doué, Assignon has now gone from first to third choice, and a departure seems the best scenario for all parties. However, Rennes have set a considerable asking price. Galatasaray, who are looking to replace Sacha Boey, were prepared to offer €4m plus bonuses, but have been told that Assignon is valued at €10m.

Marseille and Bournemouth are both interested in taking Assignon on loan with an option to make the deal permanent, but not at the price currently being quoted by Rennes.
