Boubacar Kamara joins Aston Villa despite strong Atlético interest

Aston Villa have signed 22-year old defensive midfielder Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer, beating off a number of clubs who were reportedly interested in capturing his signature.

The Frenchman had only yesterday announced that he had chosen a new club, leaving Marseille for a new challenge abroad.

Reports had suggested that Atlético Madrid had been chasing Kamara as an option to bolster their midfield, but the Frenchman has instead opted for a move to the Premier League.

The youngster came through the youth ranks at Marseille, making his debut for the first team in 2016. In the last two seasons, Kamara has been a regular starter at the club, and made 34 appearances in 2021/22.
