Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Bayer Leverkusen to open the 24/25 Bundesliga season | OneFootball

The DFL have revealed the opening games for the 2024/25 Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga seasons, with the full schedule to be revealed.

The Bundesliga season will begin with defending champions Bayer Leverkusen making the short trip to Mönchengladbach to play Borussia Mönchengladbach at Borussia Park. Last season saw Leverkusen win the first game at Borussia Park 3-0 before the return game at the BayArena was one of the only times Die Werkself did not score all season as they drew 0-0.

While in the 2.Bundesliga, newly relegated 1.FC Köln face the dinosaur of the league Hamburg. The two teams have not faced each other in a professional setting since 2022 when Hamburg beat Köln on penalties in the DFB Pokal. While the last time these two teams faced each other in the league was in the second division in 2018/19 when Hamburg won 1-0 and drew the return game.

The game that is classed as the opener of the season is the DFL Super Cup, which happens on the same weekend as the opening round of the DFB-Pokal and will see Leverkusen host VfB Stuttgart.
