As reported by SportBild, Borussia Mönchengladbach are keen on luring Werder Bremen’s teenage defender Fabio Chiarodia to Borussia-Park.
For the Foals, it would only cost €2m to acquire the signature of the Italian due to a clause in his contract that expires at the end of June. Chiarodia’s contract is set to expire in 2024 and Bremen were hopeful of agreeing on an extension, nevertheless, the defender looks set to leave this summer.
The Italian defender is the number one target for new Gladbach boss Gerardo Seoane, who even tried to sign Chiarodia as Bayer Leverkusen boss last summer. However, Gladbach do face competition with Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan also targeting the 18-year-old.
Chiarodia became the youngest player in Bremen’s history when he made his debut for Die Werderaner in October with a fleeting two-minute cameo against Freiburg. He would only go on to feature two more times in the Bundesliga over the course of the campaign, making his only start against none other than Gladbach in March.
However, Gladbach’s greatest issue is that they are running out of time to take advantage of the release clause, as they need to sell in order to obtain the €2m. Manu Koné and Nico Elvedi are the two players that the Foals are looking to sell for significant funds, but there is yet to be a suitable offer for either player.
