Borussia Mönchengladbach target Montpellier’s Jonas Omlin in the case of Yann Sommer’s departure | OneFootball

Mohamed Toubache-Ter is reporting that Borussia Mönchengladbach are preparing to bid for Montpellier goalkeeper Jonas Omlin (29), should Yann Sommer (34) move to Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

Sommer has been heavily linked to the German champions throughout the window. Bayern Munich are on the search for an interim goalkeeper with Manuel Neuer unavailable until the end of the current season, at the earliest. As has been widely reported, including by sources contacted by Get French Football News, the Bavarian side were keen on repatriating Alexander Nübel, who has been on loan at AS Monaco since the beginning of last season. His current loan deal expires in the summer, with his long-term future undecided.

However, Monaco had the right to refusal, and Nübel’s agent has now confirmed that the player will remain with the Principality club until the end of the season. Mönchengladbach’s Sommer is another name closely linked with filling the void between Bayern Munich’s posts. According to Fabrizio Romano, the clubs ar once again discussing a potential move with Bayern Munich pushing to get a deal done this week.

Should that deal be completed, Mönchengladbach would be interested in replacing Sommer with his compatriot, Omlin, who plays his club football for Ligue 1 side Montpellier. The German club are preparing an offer despite Montpellier dismissing Mönchengladbach’s interest, according to Toubache-Ter. He adds that, whilst Montpellier are showing themselves to be inflexible, Mönchengladbach know that the French side would want €10m for their Swiss goalkeeper, which is what the German club are asking for Sommer.
