Borussia Mönchengladbach have announced that they have fined and punished midfielder Florian Neuhaus.
At the weekend, a video was posted on social media with Neuhaus in Mallorca calling director Roland Virkus ‘the worst manager in the world’ whilst also commenting on the fact that he was given €4m per year by Virkus:
“Rollo gives Florian Neuhaus one, two, three, four million.”
As a result of this, Gladbach have fined Neuhaus and he has been sent to train with the club’s under-23s for the next four weeks. The first team returns on Friday for the start of their pre-season.
On the decision to fine and punish Neuhaus, club CEO Stefan Stegemann said:
“Florian Neuhaus’ behaviour and statements are damaging to the club and unacceptable. His words have harmed the club and deeply disappointed those involved. This is incompatible with the values of the club,”
Neuhaus is one of the vice-captains at Gladbach, but after this debacle, it would not be a wise decision to continue with him in a leadership role. On top of this, the 28-year-old has fallen out of favour under head coach Gerardo Seoane and has spent most of the season on the bench.
This summer, the midfielder has been linked with a move to Augsburg.
