Sky Germany are reporting that Borussia Mönchengladbach and Jan Olschowsky are in advanced talks on a contract extension for the 21-year-old.

It is set to be a long-term deal but details need to be clarified before Gladbach confirm the extension. Olschowsky’s previous contract was set to expire in the summer.

The goalkeeper was Gladbach’s third choice going into this season but injuries to Yann Sommer and Tobias Sippel meant Olschowsky made his debut against Bochum before putting in a strong performance against Borussia Dortmund just before the World Cup break.

Olschowsky will most likely be promoted to the number two position next season and he will be the understudy to whoever replaces the departing Yann Sommer but he still needs time to develop. The 21-year-old has been at Gladbach his whole career and was born in nearby Neuss.

Gladbach are spending their winter in Germany and face Oldenburg and St Pauli in friendlies before restarting their campaign against Bayer Leverkusen on the January 22.
