Recently injured Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck announced he will be withdrawing from public life for a time. The Bundesliga professional took to Instagram on Tuesday, releasing a statement addressed at his fans. There will be no further social media updates from the 20-times-capped German international while he rehabs his meniscus tear.
Schlotterbeck’s injury comes at a particularly heartbreaking time for the 25-year-old. He recently garnered two assists in a league win in his newfound role as a corner taker. In an emotional message not unlike that delivered by FC Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller to his fans yesterday, Schlotterbeck appealed for time and space away from the public eye.
“This message is incredibly difficult for me to write,” Schlotterbeck noted. “as I know how much my game means to you and how much you support me. Unfortunately, rehabbing my knee will take several months. It will be a long and challenging journey, but I’m determined to get back to full fitness.“ “During this time, I will also withdraw from the public and social media in order to fully concentrate on my recovery,” Schlotterbeck continued. “Above all else, I need this for myself and my mind.”
