During his press conference ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga game against Hoffenheim on Friday night, Edin Terzić confirmed the unfortunate news that Mateu Morey has had to undergo surgery and will be sidelined for several months.
“Unfortunately, Mateu will not be available to us for a long time,” said Terzić. “He had to undergo surgery on the lateral meniscus of his left knee yesterday. Accordingly, we will have to do without him in the coming months. Of course, that hurts us a lot.”
Terzić did however have good news regarding Gio Reyna, who could return this weekend. “For [Donyell] Malen, it will not be enough until the weekend. There are still question marks with [Mahmoud] Dahoud and [Karim] Adeyemi. Gio Reyna has been back in training since Sunday, with him it looks good for Friday.”
Morey failed to make an appearance for Borussia Dortmund last season due to injury, and his latest setback will certainly be disappointing for the Spaniard, who played 45 minutes for BVB II on August 13.
Meanwhile, Terzić isn’t in a rush to include Reyna after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but the American could make his comeback this weekend against Hoffenheim.
